Each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, we at Accion along with tens of thousands of shoppers celebrate Small Business Saturday — a day to “shop small” in our local communities. Don’t know where to start your Small Business Saturday shopping? We’re here to help with a list of our favorite Accion client items, all of which are available online.
My friends and family think it’s a riot that I enjoy cooking barbecue – that’s because I am a vegetarian. But cooking is one of my great joys and not eating the rewards of my effort is no loss to me. That’s why I love Accion client Pamela Jones’ CharBoy’s BBQ sauce – it puts a smile on everybody’s face, not to mention the sauce, and we all are happy to support small businesses and the International House of Sauces & Seasonings is one of my favorites.

My favorite Accion client item is my sterling silver Natasha Wozniak designed bracelet. I received it as a gift from co-workers so it has special meaning, but I also love that it was created by a talented artist living and working where I live in Brooklyn. Natasha’s pieces are romantic and elegant and would make perfect holiday gifts for jewelry lovers like me. I love when jewelry has an interesting story, and am proud that this one is about Accion!

Brooklyn foodie Kari Morris of Morris Kitchens had me at hello. Well actually her Spiced Apple Syrup had me at hello. Made with lots of love, Kari’s syrups can be drizzled over yogurt or used in seasonal cocktails like hot mulled cider. Due to growing demand, Kari used a $9,000 Accion loan to increase production and purchase labels which allowed her to produce 5 times the amount of syrup. Help Kari get some of that inventory off the shelves this holiday season

All my colleagues know that I’m a huge animal lover. So when I learned about Accion client Daven Lee and her goat farm I couldn’t resist but try her products. Daven’s company, Milk and Honey sells soaps, balms, and lotion bars made from her goats’ milk and a neighboring bee farm’s honey and beeswax. I have fallen head over heels in love with Milk and Honey’s Lotion Bar. Perfect for this dry winter season, the lotion bar will keep your skin smooth and your lips hydrated.

It doesn’t get that cold here in San Francisco, but every winter as the fog rolls in and I start unpacking my layers I get a hankering for some good comfort food. This fall I brought home a bottle of Yolanda’s pesto, and it has quickly become a staple in our kitchen. Between grilled pesto pizzas, pasta and bruschetta, her classic almond pesto has made an appearance at our dinner table just about every night! I have about run through my supply, and am looking forward to trying her Sundried Tomato Pesto next! Luckily, I don’t have to wait until my next trip to New York thanks to her great website.

Are you looking for a unique yet practical gift for someone this holiday season? Accion clients Barrett and Melissa Hanks have turned their passion for beauty and creativity into a business—Woodchips for Kate. Each of the pens they produce portrays intricate detail and incredible craftsmanship. My favorite style is the “Claro Walnut,” which looks like the inner swirls of a tree trunk. Sourced from woods around the world, Woodchips for Kate creates a product that is not only functional but is sure to be envied by all the writers in the room!

I love to cook, especially when I have a great recipe to follow and lots of spices to engage the senses. Accion client and owner of SplenDishes, Shonali Thomas delivers on both. She has a wide array of spices from which to choose. My favorite is the “Super Tuscan Blend” spice, which can be used as a salad dressing, pasta sauce or burger marinade. Her signature cookbook Shonal’s Kitchen provides “culinary inspiration” and is a perfect gift for the holidays. Support small business and spice up dinner today!
